Vazhakulam Agro and Fruit Processing Company Ltd is a Government of Kerala Undertaking established as per the GO (MS) No.263/13/AD dated 31/08/2013. The company was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 (No.1 of 1956) on 23 October 2013. Government of Kerala holds 51% share, Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council Keralam (successor organization of Kerala Horticulture Development Programme (KHDP) holds 19% and registered farmers hold 30%.
In the year 1998, Kerala Horticulture Development Programme established a state of the art processing factory at Nadukkara (Nadukkara Agro Processing Factory) to help and facilitate pineapple growing farmers in the region with better agriculture techniques and opportunity to market their Vazhakulam GI pineapple fruits and value added products made out of it at the factory in a professional and commercial manner. Pursuant to Government of Kerala decision, the factory and assets were transferred on 31-01-2015 from the Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council Keralam to Vazhakulam Agro and Fruit Processing Company Ltd, to widen the scope of and diversification of the business activities.
Objectives:
To carry on the business of production, processing and marketing of value added horticultural and agricultural products for the benefit of farmers.
To engage in export related activities including storage of perishable and non perishable goods.
Quality
The factory conforms to international standards for processes and quality of finished products. The factory is ISO 22000-2005 and FSSAI certified. Registered farmers supply fresh pineapple to the company. The fruits are taken care of at every stage of procurement and are processed and packed using hygienic and high-tech methods.
The demand for healthy and natural foods is increasing and there is concern for safety with respect to processed products. JIVE products are put through stringent quality control measures at every stage of production. From the stage of selection of the best fruit to the aseptic packing stage extra care is taken not to compromise on quality and safety.
Horticulture experts of the Government of Kerala (Agriculture Department) provide advice on crop planning and the latest and safe farming techniques. This helps the member farmers to produce and supply the desired top quality crop to the company as well as in the market. Modern crop management techniques, use of high quality suckers, scientific farming, and post harvesting methods are incorporated. On-line analysis by qualified professional of Kerala Agriculture University, Department of Agriculture, controls the parameters during production and guarantees a final product that is consistently of very good quality.
At processing side, every stage of the operations is automated with the very latest technology from India and Europe. Hence, the possibility of contamination is eliminated altogether. It has also helped the JIVE brand to be known as symbol for safe and best quality in the fruit drinks and fruit products category in the country.
